10 Minute Typing Test
Type for ten minutes and see the speed and accuracy you can hold. The average in a 2018 Aalto University study of 168,000 volunteers was about 52 WPM.
Ten minutes is a long typing test. Some job applications and typing certificates use tests this long, and they measure how well your speed and accuracy hold up once the first rush fades. The timer starts with your first keystroke and the test ends after 600 seconds.
Your result
You get gross WPM, net WPM, and accuracy. Net WPM subtracts one word per minute for each uncorrected error. Signed-in runs count toward the 10 minute leaderboard.
The "faster than about N% of typists" line after each run is an estimate. It places your net WPM on a bell curve with the average (51.56 WPM) and spread (standard deviation 20.2 WPM) measured from 168,000 volunteers in a 2018 Aalto University study, "Observations on Typing from 136 Million Keystrokes" by Dhakal et al. Real typing speeds have a longer fast tail than a bell curve, so read it as accurate to within a few points.
Pacing a long test
Start at a speed you can keep, not your sprint speed. Relax your shoulders and hands, correct mistakes calmly, and keep your eyes on the text. Compare your 10 minute result with your 1 minute result: the closer they are, the steadier your typing.
